Principal’s Message

It is hard to believe that we are already into March.  This year has gone so quickly.  We have accomplished so many great things and we still have three months left in the school year.  Once again this year, we have been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top elementary schools in the state of Indiana.  We have moved up from the top 10% in the state to the top 8% in the state of Indiana.  This also makes us the Premier Elementary School in the Whitewater Valley.  We have raised expectations for all students and they have risen to those high levels of expectations.  It has become the Charles Standard.  It is such an honor to be the principal at such an amazing school.

State Testing:

We have reached the state testing window.  Over the next several weeks, we will be participating in the state testing.  This includes IREAD3 which will be given to the 2nd grade students and 3rd grade students that did pass in 2nd grade.  The 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking the ILEARN test later this Spring.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase what they have learned.

Attendance:

We have been working very hard to ensure that all of our students are here everyday and that they arrive on time to school.  First semester, we had 1,600 tardies.  This is unacceptable and we can do better.  Second semester tardy numbers have been creeping up.   Richmond Community Schools has a number of bus routes that your student can ride and be on time everyday.  Help us help you.

Upcoming Events

Music Program:

It seems like every year we set attendance records for our Spring Music Performance at Civic Hall.  This year should be no different.  We will see you all on March 11th at 6PM for our performance.  Remember that the students have worked very hard, please applause and cheer at the appropriate times.

Summer School Program at Charles:

This year, Charles was lucky enough to be picked as the location for Richmond Community Schools summer school.  Students will be selected by teacher recommendation.  Summer school will run from June 2nd - June 27th.  Your student's teacher will be reaching out to you if they are recommending your child to participate in our summer learning.
